Hi, there. Today, I’m going to tell you how to enjoy the end of summer for those of you who are planning to travel domestically in August 2023. I’ll introduce you to some places that have various attractions such as the sea and the mountains, culture and history, stars and nature. I hope this helps you with your vacation plans.

Boseong Tea Fields

1. Boseong Tea Fields and Deokryang Station

Boseong is famous for its green tea fields, where you can feel the green energy. Boseong Tea Fields are the oldest green tea cultivation site in Korea, with about 500,000 pyeong (about 1.65 million square meters) of tea fields. You can enjoy the refreshing scent and cool breeze as you walk through the tea fields. Boseong has a lot more to see besides the tea fields. For example, Deokryang Station, a rural railway station with a 1970s vibe, gives you a vintage and new feeling. You can explore the street with old barber shops, cafes, and posters, or rent an old school uniform and take pictures. Also, Yongchu Village Forest, a village forest created by the residents, is a serene and beautiful scenery with pine trees.

2. Tongyeong Undersea Tunnel and Skyline Luge

Tongyeong is a famous tourist destination for its fantastic sea views. There are many attractions where you can enjoy the sea to the fullest. First, Tongyeong Port is an international trade port that handles the import and export of seafood. It operates regular and high-speed ferries and is one of the best spots to see the blue sea. If you want to feel the thrill while enjoying the scenery, you can try the Skyline Luge, which is a ride that runs on a track with slopes and gravity. The Undersea Tunnel, the first underwater tunnel in the East, is a gate that connects the island and the land, and it gives a dark but mysterious feeling. You can walk through the tunnel and observe the marine life.

For accommodation in Tongyeong, Stanford Hotel & Resort near Tongyeong International Music Hall is recommended. It is convenient to go to Hallyeosudo Viewing Cable Car and Skyline Luge, and the hotel's exterior and rooms are modern and neat with the sea view. You can use the restaurant, lounge bar, and cafe in the hotel, and they offer buffet-style breakfast every day for an extra fee. The rooms have free toiletries, hair dryers, TVs, free bottled water, and free Wi-Fi.

3. Hwangmaesan and BTS Filming Location

Hwangmaesan is a mountain located in Hapcheon County, Gyeongsangnam-do, and it is known as a mountain that can touch the sky. The mountain is steep and complex, so it was also called 'the mountain that is hard to conquer' in the past. The scenery that shows the four seasons clearly and the beautiful nature make your eyes happy. The height is 810.2m, and it belongs to the Gwangju Mountain Range along with Cheolmasan (711m) in the northwest. If you use a car, you can use the public parking lot. The trail starts from where you meet the valley. There is no fork to the summit, so you won't get lost.

Hwangmaesan is also famous as the filming location of BTS's 'Fire' and 'EPILOGUE : Young Forever'. Do you remember BTS posing on a rock next to the summit stone? And it was also used as a filming location for 'Mr. Sunshine'. If you go down the stairs, you can see these scenes. The scenery is said to be amazing, so I recommend you to visit Hwangmaesan and check it out at least once.

Sobaeksan

4. Sobaeksan and Birobong

Sobaeksan is a big famous mountain, although many people think it is a small mountain because of its name. And Sobaeksan is one of the 12 best mountains in Korea. The area around Sobaeksan is made of slate, and especially the slate formed in the Cambrian period formed a thick weathering layer, making the main ridge have a shape of a soil mountain. The total course is divided into eight courses. They are Choamsa Course, Samgadong Course, Heebangsi Course, Jukryeom Course, Yeouigok Course, Cheondonggye Course, Euljeon Trail, and Dosolbong Course. If you climb up to Birobong of Sobaeksan, you will see a vast field. The dung wind (a fierce cold wind) that does not stop even in summer will cool you down in the hot summer. From July 1 to August 31, they will operate a reservation system for the Sobaeksan National Park trails, so if you are interested, please apply through the link below.

5. Jangryeongsan Natural Recreation Forest and Water Park

The last place I'm going to introduce to you is Jangryeongsan Natural Recreation Forest, where you can enjoy both mountain and water activities. Jangryeongsan is 656m high, and the ridge gently extends from the summit to the north to Maseongsan, Yongbong, and Samsungsan, surrounding the Okcheon watershed. The hiking trail is easy, so beginners can easily access it. And on the west side, there is a natural recreation forest where you can camp.

The natural recreation forest has various accommodations such as camping sites, houses in the forest, and villas in the forest. The camping site is open from April to October, and you can use it from 10 a.m. on the check-in day to 9 a.m. on the next day. There is also a shower room for campers. The water park is open from July to August, and it is great for playing in the cool valley. If you want a summer vacation with nature, I recommend Jangryeongsan Natural Recreation Forest.
